During the week of June 10-16, firefighters responded to 16 calls, including: six fires (cooking fires on North Main Street and Georgia Avenue; heavily involved commercial structure on James Street; one brush/grass fire, one electrical issue call.

▲ During the week of June 10-16, firefighters responded to 16 calls, including: six fires (cooking fires on North Main Street and Georgia Avenue; heavily involved commercial structure on James Street; one brush/grass fire, one electrical issue call, one unfounded fire call.

▲ Also, six fire alarms and one smoke scare; one elevator rescue, one smoke detector installation and one station tour.

▲ No injuries or deaths were reported.

➤ Portal Police Department

▲ During the week of June 13-20, Portal Police Chief Jason Sapp responded Friday to a call involving a suspect sought by sheriff’s deputies. The call ended in a shooting, with one suspect injured with a self-inflicted injury to the chin. He was flown to a Savannah hospital with critical but non-fatal injuries.

▲ Officers also issued six traffic citations and six warnings, assisted one motorist and performed several school and business checks.
