Deputies serving warrants Wednesday on metal theft charges found more than they expected when suspects had evidence of making methamphetamine.
Once Bulloch County Sheriff’s investigators arrived at the Mud Road location to serve warrants for the arrest of Anthony Dwayne Turner, 38, Mud Road, they found “evidence of methamphetamine use and manufacturing on the property,” said Bulloch County Sheriff Lynn Anderson.
Deputies were there to arrest Turner and Jacob Ryan Smith, 34, Ga. 67, Brooklet, for allegedly stealing and selling metal “belonging to Georgia Southern Railway” to a local recycler, he said. The recycler reported the
incident as suspicious, and investigators gathered enough evidence to secure the warrants, he said.
When deputies took Turner into custody, they found the evidence of methamphetamine use and manufacturing, Anderson said.
After obtaining a search warrant for the property, investigators found “a large quantity of (suspected stolen) wire which had not yet been stripped and sold,” he said.
Several guns were found on the property as well.
Deputies took Turner and two others into custody, and later found Smith at another location.
Turner was charged with criminal attempt to manufacture methamphetamine, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, intruding on railroad tracks, theft by conversion, criminal trespass, and theft by taking.
Smith was charged with intruding on railroad tracks, theft by conversion, criminal trespass, theft by taking and probation violation.
Christina Elizabeth Davis, 26, Mud Road, was charged with criminal attempt to manufacture methamphetamine, probation violation and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
Deputies also arrested Jennifer Dawn Stansbury, 32, Waters Cemetery Road, on charges of criminal attempt to manufacture methamphetamine and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
All four suspects were taken to the Bulloch County Jail, where they awaited court proceedings.
