The Screven County Gamecocks’ season is being brought to fans by the number ‘0’.
Screven won its game at Glenn Hills Friday night by a score of 35-0. That makes the Gamecocks 8-0 overall and 6-0 in region play.
E.J. Roberson ran for 55 yards and a pair of touchdowns while Armani Bunbury and Edward Lovett threw touchdown passes to Kashawn Robinson and Chance Whitman, respectively, as the Gamecocks made short work of another opponent.
The shutout win marked the sixth consecutive game in which Screven hasn’t allowed its opponent to find the scoreboard. The 1988 Gamecocks are the only other team in program history to accomplish the feat.
A showdown for the region championship against Jefferson County in the regular season finale seemed inevitable heading into the season and will indeed occur next week. Seventh-ranked Jefferson County will make the trip to Sylvania to take on the No. 3 Gamecocks, with the winner clinching a perfect regular season and a top seed in the Class AA state playoffs.
