Georgia Southern will be looking to get closer to wrapping up a first-round bye in the Southern Conference tournament when it takes on UNC-Greensboro at 7:30 p.m. today at Hanner Fieldhouse.
The Eagles (13-12, 11-4) have won five straight games and hold a two-game lead over third-place Wofford in the South Division with three games to play.
The Spartans (12-15, 10-5) lead the North Division under interim coach Wes Miller, who took over after Mike DeMent was fired following a 2-8 start. They beat College of Charleston, 78-63, Wednesday night, and have won 10 of their last 11 games.
Facts and Figures: Miller, 28, is the youngest D-I head coach in the country. He was a member of North Carolina’s 2005 national championship team. The Spartans rank last in the conference in field goal percentage. The Eagles are the best shooting team in the SoCon.
Notable: GSU will recognize and honor former coach and hall of famer J.E. Rowe at the game. Rowe played for coach J.B. Searce, and as the Eagles’ head coach was 57-46 in four seasons (1970-74), including 19-7 his final season. He was head coach when the Eagles entered Division I play. Rowe, who also played baseball and signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers after graduation, will throw out the first pitch at the baseball game at 1:30 p.m.
