Portal, Ga. — Mr. Frank Gerald Dickerson, "Jerry," age 81, died Sunday, May 30, 2021, at the Ogeechee Area Hospice inpatient facility in Statesboro.
The native and lifelong long resident of Portal, Georgia, was a 1958 graduate of Portal High School. Following high school, Jerry began working at Farmers Mutual Exchange, where he was employed for 15 years. He then began his career with Blackstone, where he worked and retired from Grinnell Company at the age of 50.
Following his retirement, Jerry spent many years raising cattle, fishing, hunting and picking grapes.
He was of the Primitive Baptist faith.
Jerry was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters: Bertis Deal, Pete Dickerson, Reggie Dickerson, Grace Deal, Kelly Dickerson, Eunice Chester, Jewel Dickerson and Barney Dickerson.
Surviving are his wife, Runette Lanier Dickerson of Portal; two daughters, Amy Dickerson of Metter and Lori Dickerson Deloach of Statesboro; two granddaughters, Sarah Deloach of Metter and Susanne Deloach of Statesboro; three sisters, Dorothy Newsome of Statesboro, Bobbie D. Morris of Portal, and Betty Collins of Pelion, S.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive visitors on Wednesday from 3 p.m. until 4 p.m. at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home in Statesboro.
The service will be at 4 p.m. in the chapel of the funeral home with Joey Godbee and Mickey Dickerson officiating.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Ogeechee Area Hospice, P.O. Box 531, Statesboro, GA 30459.
