A woman who reported being touched inappropriately by a male roommate discovered he was a registered sex offender with a conviction of sexual battery against a juvenile, said Bulloch County Sheriff Lynn Anderson.
The 21-year-old female victim said she knew nothing about the past criminal record of Bennie Kyle Carter, 43, D. Anderson Road, Register.
The victim told investigators Carter touched her without consent, and after she told her boyfriend about rebuffing Carter’s advances, they both moved out of the home, he said.
But, “During the course of the investigation, it was determined that Carter is a registered sex offender” who was convicted in 2004 of sexual battery against a juvenile, Anderson said.
The victim of the recent incident told investigators she was unaware of Carter’s past conviction and that she and her boyfriend had been living with Carter without knowing he was a registered sex offender.
Convicted sex offenders must, by law, provide law enforcement officials
with information about their residence and
employment.
After the victim’s report, deputies issued a warrant for Carter, charging him with felony sexual battery. He was arrested and remains in the Bulloch County Jail without bond. Anderson said anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Inv. Walter Deal at (912) 764-8888.
Holli Deal Bragg may be reached at (912) 489-9414.
