Statesboro police arrested a second man suspected in the rape of an unconscious woman last week.
Around 8 p.m. Friday, Nikilas Jamal Fussell, the second suspect in the rape investigation of the May 6 incident, turned himself in after Statesboro police Detective Tommy Brown located him and advised him to do so, Statesboro Public Safety Director Wendell Turner said.
Fussell, 19, of Chandler Road, is charged with one count of rape.
On May 6, witnesses told police Fussell and Joshua Denzel Brown, 20, also of Chandler Road, sexually assaulted an unconscious woman at The Cove Apartments around 1:30 a.m., Turner said.
The victim was taken to the hospital, and Brown was arrested a short time later. Warrants were issued for Fussell; now both he and Brown are being held without bond at the Bulloch County Jail.
Upon arrival at the apartment that morning, officers spoke to several people in the apartment, including a woman who reported the incident.
"The complainant stated that there were multiple males in an apartment that were having sex with a female that was unconscious," Turner said. "Officers identified all of the subjects in the apartments and took voluntary statements. An unconscious 20-year-old female was transported from the apartment to East Georgia Regional Medical Center by Emergency Medical Services."
The victim had no apparent physical injuries, he said.
