CLAXTON - Beaming snaggle-toothed smiles reflected the excitement of eight first graders who were selected by their teachers as "Students of the Month" and recognized for their outstanding behavior.
Earlier this month, Claxton Elementary teachers held a pizza party in the school cafeteria for the eight students who were hand picked to represent their first grade homerooms as February students of the month.
Each first grade homeroom teacher was asked to write a few words explaining why their student was selected.
Miriam Garcia was described by Nicole Hodges as "conscientious and careful to complete her work neatly and correctly."
"You can always depend on Sage [Tidwell] to follow directions and make excellent choices," said Shana Richey.
Others were recognized for their "positive energy," "exemplary behavior," or "incredible impact" on classmates.
Each of the students was selected for their positive character example, said Phyllis Anthony, media specialist.
"The teachers at several grade levels have been doing this, so that we can recognize more of our students in areas like citizenship and behavior," said Principal Marty Todd.
This good-behavior campaign also encourages students to continue to be on their best behavior as the end of the school year quickly approaches.
"We are very proud of all our students who have been selected as students of the month," said Todd.
