Another Dollar General Store robbery, this one Monday night in Newington, involved two suspects instead of the usual single masked man.

Just after 8 p.m. Monday, two suspects, believed to be black males, both armed and wearing dark clothing and masks, entered the Newington Dollar General Store and held two clerks at gunpoint, said Newington Police Officer Daniel Appleton.

This incident follows a string of Dollar General armed robberies across t6he region, including similar incidents in Statesboro, Pulaski, Brooklet, and Claxton.

However, Appleton said investigators are still looking into this latest armed robbery to determine whether ut is linked to the others.

The two men walked into the store, confronting the two clerks, who “were cooperative,” he said. The men took an undisclosed amount of cash and fled on foot. “There was no indication of any vehicle involved,” he said.
