Janet Aldrich, right, sets out Peanut Festival t-shirts at Sunrise Produce on Highway 80 in Brooklet Thursday. The festival will be held in Brooklet on Saturday, August 16.
There will be a few new attractions at the upcoming 19th Annual Brooklet Peanut Festival, but some things never change, said spokeswoman Jeanette Lafond. What will remain the same is the fun people have attending the event.
The festival will be held Aug. 16 in downtown Brooklet with new "kiddie ride" attractions, new vendors, and a new headliner band, she said. But there will still be peanuts of all kinds — fried, boiled, roasted, in baked goods and candies; still be the slow tractor race and the kid's pedal tractor race, and several groups and individuals will perform throughout the day.
The band, "Off Duty," is a group of young men in the military who perform music in their spare time, Lafond said. They will begin playing at 7 p.m. for the street dance.
"Chill fans" will help keep patrons cool as they rest underneath a large tent that will be available for those who want to take a break and enjoy performances, and tee shirts commemorating the event will be available as well, she said.
"We've been going strong for 19 years now," she said. "We always have fun."
The event is family-oriented, and no alcohol, drugs or unruly behavior will be allowed, she said.
The day's events kick off at 7 a.m. with the Peanut Run foot race. Then, at 9:30 a.m., at the gazebo in downtown Brooklet, dancers with Southern Company, a division of Southern Dance Academy, will perform.
The parade through town begins at 10 a.m., and when the crowd begins to disperse afterward, many will gravitate to the downtown area for live performances, vendors, arts and crafts, and lots of food available throughout the day.
Applications for the parade must be received by Thursday, Lafond said. For information about the parade, contact Randy Newman at  (912) 842-2325.
The Brooklet Peanut Festival Pageant will be held Saturday, Aug. 9, at 3 p.m. at  Brooklet Elementary School, she said. For additional information about the pageant, contact BJ Scott at (912) 842-2333.
