Green grits, green popcorn and green drinks.
The annual March First Friday event, “Green Grits,” takes place from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on the courthouse lawn.
People are invited taste all the green foods and drinks they can imagine, play games and enjoy other activities.
“We get spring fever and we want to paint our downtown green,” said Allen Muldrew, the executive director of the Downtown Statesboro Development Authority.
At St. Patrick’s Day-themed event, Freeman’s Mill will serve up green grits with a variety of toppings.  Children are encouraged to participate in a variety of green events and many games and activities.
On the courthouse lawn, First Friday attendees can play a free game of putt-putt, sponsored by The Clubhouse and Statesboro Floor Covering.
There also will be an assortment of vendors, and downtown stores and restaurants will be open for visits.
“It’s great how the community and vendors can come together and create such a fun-filled, green event,” said Elena McLendon, the office manager for the development authority.
