A Statesboro woman was killed Sunday during a domestic dispute when another woman shot her in the head, according to reports.
Evans County Sheriff Randall Tippins said Laquanda Butler, 32, Green Cypress Church Road, Claxton, shot and killed Angela Rauls Joyce, whose age and specific address he could not provide. Joyce lived in Statesboro, he said.
The two women were involved in a domestic dispute at Butler’s Green Cypress Church Road home when Butler fired a hand gun, shooting Joyce in the head, according to reports from the Evans County Sheriff’s Department.
Jail dispatch logs show a call around 12:52 a.m. Sunday, with a responding deputy reporting a woman had been shot in the head at the residence and was dead at the scene.
Butler was arrested at the scene on a charge of murder, reports stated.
Dispatch reports also reveal Butler suffered a panic attack in the jail shortly after her arrest and was treated by EMS.
Both Tippins and Georgia Bureau of Investigations Special Agent-in-Charge Craig Rodder said the shooting was a result of a domestic dispute, but could not divulge additional details. Tippins said he heard reports that the two women were romantically involved, but said he could not confirm the relationship.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Evans County Sheriff Randall Tippins at (912) 739-1611 or the Statesboro GBI Office at (912) 871-1121.
