Two men charged with bootlegging are behind bars after Statesboro Police and state agents seized more than $4,000 worth of alcoholic beverages from a Denmark Street home Friday.
Larry Charles McReynolds, 54, also known by the name “Alabama,” was charged with five counts of unlawful sale of alcohol, sale of alcohol within 100 yards of a church, keeping a disorderly house, transporting distilled spirits across state lines and violation of limitation of the quantity of distilled spirits, said Statesboro Public Safety Director Wendell Turner.
Another man arrested at the scene, Alonzo McReynolds, 24, was charged with theft by receiving stolen property (firearm) and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Both men reside at the same Denmark Street home.
Turner said members of the Statesboro Police Crime Suppression Unit, led by Det. Sgt. Rob Bryan, along with agents from the Georgia Department of Revenue and Georgia Department of Pardons and Parole, executed a search warrant Friday at the Denmark Street home “ as a result of an investigation into the unlicensed sale of alcohol from that residence.”
The Statesboro Police Department had received several citizen complaints ranging from “bootlegging to firearms violations,” he said.
Along with an assortment of liquor and other alcohol seized during the raid, officers also took possession of four guns, he said.
Both suspects were taken to the Bulloch County Jail to await further court action.
Turner asked citizens with information to call the police department at (912) 764-991 or submit information to www.tipsoft.com. Tips can be sent via text to TIPSSPD (plus message) to 274637 (CRIMES) as well, he said.
