Mr. & Mrs. Lawson Newman Deal
    Mary Elizabeth Wallace and Lawson Newman Deal were united in marriage in a late afternoon wedding on May 31, 2008, at Pittman Park United Methodist Church. The Rev. Terry B. Joyner, uncle of the bride, officiated.
    The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John S. Wallace of Statesboro. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Frances Joyner and the late Mr. Lloyd L. Joyner, the late Fred A. Wallace and the late Mr. and Mrs. C.R. Pound, all of Statesboro.
    The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Sammy Deal of Millen. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Hudson Williams of Millen, the late Mr. and Mrs. Solomon (Shad) Deal of Portal, and the great-grandson of Mae Dell Brannen of Millen.
    Given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, the bride wore a white silk chiffon A-line strapless gown with side ruching. The gown featured crystal and pearl beading accented with silk thread floral embroidery that spiraled from the side ruching down the side wrap and continuing around the chapel train. A double-layered fingertip veil of silk tulle edged with crystal and pearl beading and silk floral embroidery trim complemented the gown. The bride carried a hand-tied bouquet of pink, coral and green mixed spring flowers.
    Maid of honor was Hannah Williamson and matron of honor was Mrs. Heather Deal, sister-in-law of the groom, both of Statesboro. Bridesmaids were Brooke Evans of Macon, Megan Joyner of Atlanta, cousin of the bride; Josie Miller of Savannah and Kali Groover, Summer Hodges, sister of the groom; and Meghan Lynch, all of Statesboro.
    Attendants wore tea-length silk chiffon gowns of summer green with coral accents and carried hand-tied spring flower bouquets.
    The bride’s sister, Mrs. Amy Wallace Borraga of Lanett, Ala., was honorary matron of honor. Audrey Hodges and Lalie Deal, nieces of the groom, were flower girls.
    Sammy Deal, father of the groom; Blake Deal, brother of the groom; and Jay Hodges, brother-in-law of the groom, served as best men. Groomsmen were Phillip Blackburn, Mitchell Bohler, Matt Daughtry, Matt Keel, Brian Powell and Barrett Street, all of Statesboro. Brannen Hodges, nephew of the groom, was ring bearer.
    Music was provided by Mark Murphree, soloist and pianist; Becky Woodard, organist; and Katherine Mincey, flutist. Samuel Joyner, cousin of the bride, served as reader. Greeters were Mr. and Mrs. Robert Wiggins of Statesboro, godparents of the bride.
    Following the ceremony, the parents of the bride hosted a reception at the Georgia Southern University Botanical Gardens.
    The couple honeymooned in Destin, Fla., and now resides in Statesboro, where the bride is a case worker for the Department of Family and Children’s Services and the groom is employed with Statesboro Monument and Vault Company.
