What a load of malarkey, this so called NFL amateur player draft. Seven rounds, 252 picks, and not a single team had the least bit of sense to pick up a certain Georgia Southern Eagle.
You know who I’m talkin’ bout. There can be no impostor, you want him on yo’ roster, he ain’t no child — but a man named Jayson Foster. And you sucka’s missed out.
More devastatingly, my record took another hit: 11-17.
Birds of Prey
Most critics, analysts and smarty-pants thought the Hawks didn’t have a prayer in their first-round series with the Boston Celtics. Many still don’t.
But don’t act like I didn’t tell yah so, fool.
Atlanta, just might be too young and too stupid to realize what they’ve gotten themselves into.
I’ll just quit while I’m ahead in terms of calling Hawks wins. Even if I was to make another wild prediction I’d have until the Fourth of July to do so, seeing as the NBA playoffs last longer than Democratic primaries. Baaazing!
The track and the field
We’ve been trying to do a better job this year of covering out local track and field athletes.
This past weekend the Bulloch Academy boys’ team picked up the state title in the GISA behind the supernatural performance of Ethan Lovett. Congrats to the Gators.
If you’re not much of a track enthusiast, sneak out to your local track and try to leap a hurdle, try to run the 200-meters or take a crack at the pole vault. On second thought, put that pole back where you found it and go back to the bleachers.
I sat at the field-event portion of the Region 3-AAAA meet on Saturday and watched with awe. I’m pretty sure I couldn’t make it to the sand pit of the long jump. But you know who could? Mario Jackson.
The junior from SHS — who loves giving interviews — went ahead and made my prediction for me Saturday, calling for a Statesboro region championship.
What a concept. If the Devils come up short, everyone blames Super Mario. If they win, I get all the glory.
The Region 3-AAAA track meet resumes today at 5 p.m. at Georgia Southern.
Unbeliev-a-Devils
I case you missed it, a certain baseball team from a certain school, we’ll call them the B. Devils — no scratch that — let’s call them the Blue D’s, made an improbable little showing this past weekend to clinch a state playoff berth.
They came in as a four seed and came out as one of the 32 squads eligible to win a state championship in the AAAA classification. Wild stuff.
I bring up the mysterious team — and trust me, their season has been a mystery to this point — because it reiterates the excitement of playoff baseball.
Any team on any given day is capable of getting hot, and now at the moment we have at least five area teams — Statesboro, Southeast Bulloch, Screven County, Claxton and Jenkins County — who have a shot at winning a state title.
The GHSA state playoffs start next week and we can’t wait.
