Much is being made of Statesboro High School's girls basketball team this season. Six seniors are leading the Lady Blue Devils in their quest for a state championship, but it’s a sophomore who is provided a good amount of firepower in each game.
    Last season, Shanikwa Buie got her high school career off to a shining start as she pressed for minutes in her freshman campaign. This year, Buie has earned a starting role for the Devils and — despite her youth — has become just as imposing as her senior teammates.
    “We’re all one big family,” Buie said. “We have a great group of seniors that have made this a great team.”
    That said, Buie is also confident that the Lady Blue Devils' dynasty won’t end with the current group.
    “I’m trying hard to do my part right now, but after this season, it’s just going to be on the next group to keep winning, she said.”
    Everything has gone smoothly for Buie and the Lady Blue Devils thus far. Statesboro currently has a 6-0 record and the Lady Blue Devils are ranked No. 1 in Class AAAA in the The Associated Press poll released Monday.
