DELAND, Fla. — Freshman guard Willie Powers scored 16 points to lead Georgia Southern to a 68-55 win over Stetson in the Glenn Wilkes Classic Sunday night.
Senior guard Dwayne Foreman added 11 points and junior guard Julian Allen chipped in 10 points for Georgia Southern, which also got nine points and 11 rebounds from senior forward Louis Graham.
Junior guard Garfield Blair led Stetson with 13 points, while junior forward Eric Diaz added 11 points and sophomore guard A.J. Smith had 10 points.
Stetson, representing the hosting Atlantic Sun Conference, lost for the third time in as many days. Stetson fell to 1-4 while Georgia Southern, which won each of its three classic games played here, improved to 3-1.
The Eagles trailed 24-23 before outscoring the Hatters 16-2 over the last 2:47 of the first half and the first 2:25 of the second half to build a 39-26 lead. Allen and Powers combined for 11 of those points.
The Hatters were able to cut the deficit to five points, 51-46, after junior guard Kris Thomas made a layup with 5:55 to play, but that was as close as Stetson would get.
