Former Georgia Southern All-America quarterback Jayson Foster is in the midst of a busy two week period.
The 2007 Walter Payton Award winner is currently in El Paso, Texas, preparing for the Texas vs. The Nation Senior All-Star game today. From there Foster flies back home and will be honored Tuesday at the State Capitol.
Two days later Foster will make an appearance at the Eagles men's basketball game against Western Carolina where he’ll have an autograph signing session and be honored at halftime.
At the Texas vs. The Nation All-Star game Foster will be used as a return specialist/all-purpose back. The game will pit the top collegiate players originally from Texas or who played college football in Texas against the rest of the nation. However, Foster is currently listed on the Texas roster as jersey No. 4.
Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. eastern at Sun Bowl Stadium and will be televised live on CSTV. Fans should check with their local cable or satellite provider on availability and channel number.
Foster arrived last Sunday, worked out for the scouts on Monday then began practice on Tuesday. He and his teammates will have daily practice and meetings through Friday.
On Tuesday, Foster will be honored at the State Capitol with a Resolution in the Senate and then with another Resolution in the House of Representatives. Foster joins fellow Payton Award winner Adrian Peterson and the Eagles’ national championship teams as members of the Georgia Southern Football program honored by the State Legislature.
Senator Jack Hill sponsored Senate Resolution 762, which was co-sponsored by several other area Senators. Representative Bob Lane sponsored House Resolution 1100, which was co-sponsored by Representatives Jon Burns and Butch Parrish, in addition to several other area Representatives.
“As someone who represents Georgia Southern University I am proud to honor Jayson Foster. It's a tremendous honor to win the Walter Payton Award, we are all extremely proud of Jayson," said Hill. "Everything I've heard about Jayson from professors and others around the university who interacted with him have said what an outstanding young man he is."
According to Lane, "We look for opportunities to honor those who have brought great recognition to their community and the State of Georgia. Jayson put together a record-setting year, winning the Walter Payton Award and being named All-American. This House Resolution is the least we can do to show our appreciation for all his hard work and the prestige he brought to Georgia Southern University and the football program."
On Thursday,Foster returns to the Georgia Southern campus and Hanner Fieldhouse. Prior to the men's basketball game against Western Carolina (6:30-7:30 p.m.), Foster will be available for a picture/autograph signing session. At halftime Foster will be honored for his award-winning season, including the 2007 Walter Payton Award, various All-America honors and Southern Conference offensive player of the year accolade.
