SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Six members of the Georgia Southern baseball team earned All-Southern Conference Honors, and Josh Wirsu was named the league's Pitcher of the Year on Monday.
Wirsu was named Pitcher of the Year by both the league's head coaches and the SoCon Media Association. The junior righthander went 9-3 with a 2.25 ERA in 13 starts in his first season with the Eagles. Wirsu struck out 80 batters and walked just 32 while allowing an opponent batting average of .201.
Wirsu was also one of four Eagles to be named All-Southern Conference. Wirsu was a First Team selection by both the Coaches and Media voters.
Jason Richman, who is three appearances shy of tying the school record, was an All-SoCon Second Team pick by the coaches. Richman went 5-1 with a 1.14 ERA and tallied three saves in 39 appearances. He finished third on the team with 71.1 innings pitched and allowed just nine earned runs in that span.
Stryker Brown and Aaron Mizell were both All-SoCon Second Team outfielders in the media poll. Brown posted a career high .328 batting average with nine doubles and eight home runs in 51 games during the regular season, while Mizell led the team with 11 home runs and slugged .522 in 52 starts.
Garrett Chapman and Ryan Cleveland were also honored by the league after their freshman campaigns. Both were selected to the All-Freshman Team.
Chapman led the Eagles in the regular season with a .356 batting average, while Cleveland posted a team-high 16 doubles and hit .261 in 51 starts.
The Eagles open the SoCon tournament on  Wednesday at 10 a.m. against the Appalachian State Mountaineers.

GSU releases new Paulson diagram
In an effort to standardize the naming convention, the sides of Georgia Southern's newly-renovated Paulson Stadium will be called “North Stands” and “South Stands” according to cardinal directions and will be designated as such in all communications and on all maps and diagrams.
An unveiling of the new mid-deck and “Meet your Seat” event on Saturday, May 31 from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m., will allow Eagle fans and season ticket holders a chance to check out the views from the North stands and new mid-deck.
The afternoon will include the opportunity to win prizes, pick up football schedule posters and schedules and take photos with the Georgia Southern mascot GUS.
