John Smoltz, who is set to be inducted into Georgia Sports Hall of Fame on Feb. 25 will headline the second Evening with the All-Stars presented by the Georgia Southern Baseball Dugout Club on Feb. 2 at 7:15 p.m. in the Nesmith-Lane Building on the GSU campus. Following the dinner and silent auction, Smoltz will share experiences from his 21 seasons in the Major Leagues.
The eight-time All-Star and 1996 Cy Young Award winner spent 20 seasons with the Atlanta Braves and was a key member of the big three pitching staff that won an unprecedented 14-straight Divisional Titles including the 1995 World Series. Smoltz's career began when he was selected by his home state Detroit Tigers in the 22nd round and it ended a year after he joined a list of 15 other names in 2008 with his 3,000 career strikeouts.
Joining Smoltz on stage will be former Eagles Todd Greene and Everett Teaford. Greene holds the Georgia Southern school record with 88 home runs and spent parts of 11 seasons in the Major Leagues. The Augusta, Ga., native participated in the 2001 World Series with the New York Yankees. Teaford, an All-Southern Conference selection while at GSU, made his major league debut in 2011. He appeared in 26 games for the Kansas City Royals and posted a 2-1 record with a 3.27 ERA.

Lady Gamecocks defeat Lady Yellow Jackets
SYLVANIA — The Screven County Lady Gamecocks defeated the Southeast Bulloch Lady Yellow Jackets 56-44 Friday night.
Top scorers for SEB (4-9, 2-2) were Nira Byrd with 19 points and Jasmine Roberts with 15 points.
For Screven ( 9-6, 2-1) leading scorers were Courtney Roberts with 16 points and Courtney Burns with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Southeast Bulloch hosts Laney tonight at 5 p.m. while Screven travels to Swainsboro Tuesday to face Lady Tigers at 6 p.m.
Portal defeats Wheeler
Portal beat Wheeler 69-57 Friday night.
For Portal (12-1, 4-1) Stacey Morgan scored 21 points, Robert Lee scored 12 points, Corey Reese scored 10 points, and Shawn Haggins scored 10 points.
For Wheeler, Franshon Travis scored 17 points.
Portal will travel to Twin City to face Emanuel County Institute tonight at 7:30.
Screven defeats SEB
SYLVANIA — The Screven County Gamecocks defeated the Southeast Bulloch Yellow Jackets 49-43 Friday night after a pair of free throws from Kevin Sneed put Screven in the lead for good.
For Screven ( 2-11, 1-2), Rashad Hughley scored 18 points, and Darius Wright scored 10 points.
For SEB (0-14, 0-4), Blake Lundy scored 18 points.
Screven will travel to Swainsboro on Tuesday to face the Tigers at 6 p.m. Southeast Bulloch will host Laney tonight at 6:30.
SHS falls to Effingham County
SPRINGFIELD — The Statesboro High School Blue Devils lost to Effingham County 55-41 Friday night.
For SHS, Zaquavian Smith scored 19 points, while Quante Huff and Yakeem Coleman each scored 8 points.
For Effingham, Jakeenan Gant and Jay Wright each scored 11 points.
The Blue Devils host Johnson High School at 8 tonight.
Screven tops SEB in junior varsity match
SYLVANIA — Screven County beat Southeast Bulloch in a junior varsity match-up Friday.
For Screven, Jordan Tremble scored 14 points while Sheldon Hendrix and Dominique Murphy each scored 11 points.
