    The Georgia Southern football team begins its fourth spring under coach Jeff Monken beginning on today, with the first of two practices this week, beginning at 4 p.m.

SEB dominates home meet
    BROOKLET — Southeast Bulloch hosted Emanuel County Institute, Bleckley County, Pierce County, Brantly County and Savannah Christian Tuesday, and the boys and girls SEB squads both took a first-place finish.
    The girls took the meet with 150 points.
    Phelicia Batton set a new school record in the high jump, with a leap of 5-foot-6. Batton also won the 100- and 300-meter hurdles.
    Other top finishers were Bri Gates (long jump, 100-meters, 200m), Jasmine Roberts (triple jump), Laticia Fonseca (400), and the relay team of Gates, Jasmine Roberts, Fonseca and Katie Nevil, who won the 4x100 and 4x400 relays.
    Second-place finishers were Roberts (long jump) and Bri Wimberly (400).
    The boys won with 94 points.
    Top finishers were Charles James (pole vault), Preston Smith (high jump, triple jump) and Ladarian Fonseca (400, 800).
    Scond-place finishers were Nigil Smith (triple jump) and Javarius Spaulding (300H). The relay team of Antoine Stephens, Nigil Smith, Cecil McCollum and Antonio McMillan took second in the 4x100, and Fonseca, Stephens, McCollum and King Shatteen finished second in the 4x400.
    The Yellow Jackets return to action on Thursday, March 21 at home.

WSA nips Bulloch
    Westminster School of Augusta downed Bulloch Academy 3-1 in girls’ Region 4-AAA soccer action Tuesday.
    Lady Gator Cate Williams started off the scoring when she blasting a 40-yarder into the top half of the net in the third minute of the game.
    But that was all the offense that Bulloch could muster. The Lady Wildcats knotted the score late in the first half and scored two goals in the second half for the win.
    The Lady Gators (1-3, 0-1) host region foe Augusta Prep Friday at 5 p.m.

Rushing, SEB shut down Islands
    SAVANNAH — Drew Rushing threw a complete-game, two hitter and the Southeast Bulloch Yellow Jackets (5-4, 4-2 Region 1-AAA) took down Islands, 5-1, Tuesday on the road.
    Rushing mowed down 10 IHS batters, and Zach Hall drove in a pair of runs.
    The Yellow Jackets host a doubleheader on Friday at 4:30 p.m. against Beach.

Portal falls at Calvary Day
    SAVANNAH — The Portal Panthers fell, 8-0, Tuesday on the road in region action.
    Jamie HIll broke up a possible CDS no hitter and was the only Panther to hit safely.
    Portal hpsts Johnson County Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

SCHS dominates
    HARLEM — The Screven County boys (4-4, 2-0 Region 3-AA) and girls (6-2, 2-0) each had no problem sweeping Harlem, 5-0, on Tuesday.
    Mallorie Boswell, Keri Lane, Haley Jackson, Jacob Lariscy and Raz Patel all won without losing a game, and Ryan Bazemore and doubles pair Pamela Wooten and Laura Stuart were also winners.
    Harlem forfeited three matches.
    Screven hosts Laney on Tuesday.

Gamecocks win on PKs
    DUBLIN — The Screven County Lady Gamecocks (5-1, 3-1 Region 3-AA) beat Dublin, 2-1 (3-1) Tuesday with penalty kicks.
