After a stellar junior campaign which netted him Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Year honors, Georgia Southern football player Brent Russell has been added to the College Football Performance Award watch list for the 2012 season. The rising senior is one of 40 players up for the Football Championship Subdivision defensive line award.
Russell was fourth on the team in total tackles and was tops on the team with 16.5 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks. Russell ranked third in the SoCon in tackles behind the line of scrimmage and fourth in quaterback sacks.
A two-year All-American, Russell was selected to five All-American teams after the 2011 semifinal run which ended with in a 35-7 loss to North Dakota State. He was selected first team all-conference by both the league's coaches and media voters.
