GSU roundup: GSU football golf event May 18

The 5th Annual Legends of Georgia Southern Football Golf Classic hosted by the Eagle Football Alumni Association is May 18 at Healy Point Country Club in Macon.
    The tournament, which opens with a shotgun start at 9 a.m., raises money for the Erk Russell Football Endowment and costs $500 for a team and $125 for a single player. A hole sponsorship is available for $200. Registration on the day of the tournament begins at 7:30 a.m.
    The costs include greens fee, cart rental, lunch and an opportunity to play a hole with GSU football head coach Jeff Monken. Registration is required by May 17 but payment can be made at the tournament. For more information or to register contact Gordon Hunter at 912-478-5520.

GSU signs 3 men's tennis players
    Georgia Southern's men’s tennis program on Tuesday announced the signing three members to its 2012-13 squad.
    Patrick Doherty is the brother of current GSU player Alex Doherty. According to tennisrecruiting.net, Doherty is the 154th-ranked recruit in the country and ninth-ranked in Georgia among the graduating class of 2012. The four-star recruit hails from Eaton School in Marietta.
    Rayane Djoud was ranked in the top 50 nationally in France’s junior 18-and-under division. He is transferring to GSU after attending college this year at Centre National d'enseignement à Distance, Institut de Lyon.
    The Eagles also signed Rafael Racy out of São Paulo, Brazil. Racy was ranked in the top 10 nationally in Brazil’s junior 14-and-under division and top 20 in the 16-and-under division.
