georgiasouthernlogo

After a weekend of great pitching at J.I. Clements Stadium, Georgia Southern's baseball team will wrap up a four-game homestand at 6 tonight with a non-conference game against Bethune-Cookman.
GSU (14-15) welcomes former Eagles pitching coach Jason Beverlin, now Bethune-Cookman's head coach.
Chick-fil-A will be handing out free sandwiches to the first 50 fans in attendance.
GSU picked up its second Southern Conference series victory in four tries this season, and moved into a tie for seventh place with two wins over College of Charleston.
The Eagles got three quality starts in the series, including Chris Beck's 16-strikeout performance Friday night. Beck picked up Louisville Slugger National Pitcher of the Week and SoCon Pitcher of the Week honors after 18 strikeouts, a win and a save last week.
GSU's Eric Phillips continues to lead the team with a .414 batting average, 13 doubles and 34 runs batted in. Phillips is quickly climbing a number of career lists including batting average, hits, stolen bases and doubles. The senior co-captain also appears in the NCAA rankings and checks in at 11th in doubles, 11th in RBIs and seventh in stolen bases this season.
Bethune-Cookman was 15-12 going into its game Tuesday night at Jacksonville (Fla.) University. The Wildcats defeated North Florida, 5-2, last Wednesday behind solid pitching from five different pitchers. Four players produced multi-hit games, and David Lee scored three of the runs on two hits and a walk.
Bethune-Cookman's Scott Garner (1-2, 6.03 ERA), who is slated to face GSU's Josh Adams (0-2, 6.58) tonight, tossed a scoreless frame in the eighth inning of the win over the Ospreys. Bethune-Cookman's offense holds a .267 batting average with 39 doubles and 10 home runs. Anthony Stokes leads the squad with five home runs and 19 RBIs. He is hitting .290. The Wildcats' pitching staff holds a 4.25 ERA and 1.88 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
Tonight's game can be heard on the Boomer 103.7 FM and inside the stadium on 88.1 FM.
