Mother Josie Mae Weaver
STATESBORO, Ga. -- Mother Josie Mae Weaver, age 80, passed peacefully Saturday, January 1, 2022, at her residence with her family at her side.
    She spent her early years growing up in the Garfield community and received her formal education in the public school system of Bulloch County. She was a graduate of the William James High School Class of 1958.
    Mother Weaver became a member of the Gay’s Hill Baptist Church, Millen, Ga., at an early age. She served faithfully as an active member of the church choir and served as an assistant mother of the church.
    She was employed with the Bulloch County School System for over 20 years. She worked as a custodial worker for eight years and as a cook for 12 years until her health failed.
    She was a liaison for the City of Portal as a Girl Scout troop leader and also served as a director for the Feed-a-Kid Summer Program for over 10 years.
    In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Jerome Weaver; a son, Ronald Jerome Weaver; one sister, Georgia Bell Jackson; one brother, Samuel Jackson Singleton; a brother-in-law, Elder Harry (Uncle Bud) Gerald; and a stepson, Leroy Handy.
    She leaves to cherish her memories: two devoted daughters, Jeanette “Jen” (Frank) Ruffin, Rocky Ford, Ga.; and Jennifer “Chelle” (Ronnie) Newton, Millen, Ga.; her only grandson, Bobby Weaver of Sylvania, Ga.; three granddaughters, Roneshia Ruffin, Augusta, Ga.; JaLisa Newton, Statesboro, Ga.; and Aleisha Newton, Millen, Ga.; three great-granddaughters, De’haja Newton, Malayia Buchanan, Honesty Shivers; four great-grandsons, Peyton Williams, Zachary Weaver, Matthew Weaver and Dontavious Burton Jr.; a sister, the Rev. Dr. Kathryn Wiggins Gerald, Florence, S.C.; two half-sisters, Brenda Brown and Glenda Walden, both of Atlanta, Ga.; two stepdaughters, Laquaila Seivright, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; and April (Joe) Murray, Statesboro, Ga.; one stepson, LeSamuel Palmer, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; spiritual brothers, Pastor Larry (Donna) Cone, Dea. Schubert Lane, Dea. Alonzo Holmes, Bro. Ernest Simmons and Dea. James Reese; a very special cousin, George Jackson, Hallandale Beach, Fla.; two very special daughters in Christ, Elizabeth Jackson Brown, Statesboro, Ga.; and Estelle Bellinger, Statesboro, Ga.; sisters in Christ, Christine Thomas, Carrie Williams, Hattie Mae Glover and Yvonne Holmes; special neighbors and awesome friends, Pam, Sissy, Theresa, Kirby and Becky Walter, Monte, Brandi; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, friends and her loyal dog, Cricket.
    A walk-through viewing for Mother Weaver will be held Wednesday evening, January 5, 2022, from the hours of 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Hill’s Mortuary, Inc.
    Mother Weaver will lie in state on the day of service from 10 a.m. until the funeral hour. There will be no viewing after the eulogy.
    The funeral service for Mother Josie Mae Weaver will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 6, 2022, at the Gay’s Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Cone officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
    Final rites have been entrusted to Hill’s Mortuary, Inc.
