STATESBORO, Ga. -- Mr. Gerald Francis, age 86, died on Tuesday, January 1, 2019, at East Georgia Regional Medical Center.
    The Huddy, Kentucky, native was a veteran of the United States Air Force.
    He worked for Norfolk Western for two years and was a terminal manager with CSX Railroad for 33 years.
    He was a veteran of the United States Air Force for over nine years and served in the Korean War and Vietnam War. He also served in the United States Army National Guard in Florida from 1979-1985.
    Mr. Francis was a member of the First Baptist Church, Baldwin, Fla.
    After retirement, he moved to Bulloch County in 1998, where he enjoyed golfing and fishing. He was also a former member of the Kiwanis Club of Statesboro.
    Surviving is his wife of 36 years, Sandra Hart Francis of Statesboro; two sons, Jeffery T. Francis of Saint George, Ga.; and Mark (Jennifer) Francis of Orange Park, Fla.; a daughter, Teresa Joy Waddell of Baldwin, Fla.; one brother, Floyd Reed (Helen) Francis of Canada, Ky.; a sister, Peggy Joyce Treadway of Amarillo, Texas. Seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren also survive.
    A memorial service, with military honors, will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home with the Rev. John Woodcock officiating. Interment will be in the Georgia Veterans Cemetery in Glennville on Monday at 3 p.m.
    The family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis TN 38105.
