Yet another robbery attempt took place recently at a convenience store. But this time the suspect was a woman, and the robbery was thwarted by a determined victim.
Just before 3 p.m. Tuesday, Statesboro police responded to a robbery attempt at the OK Food Mart on Northside Drive West, Public Safety Director Wendell Turner said.
A 68-year-old woman was sitting in her car, with the door open, when another woman tried to grab her purse, he said.
The victim clung to her purse and the offender was unable to succeed in snatching it from her hands.
Surveillance video from the convenience store captured images of the suspect as she shopped inside the store beforehand. The suspect, described as a white female with black hair and wearing a pink top, left in a white or silver car. Witnesses were able to give police a partial tag number.
The victim was not injured during the scuffle, according to reports.
Turner said the robbery attempt is unusual in that the suspect was female.
“It is not the norm to have a female suspect” in robbery incidents, he said.
    The case remains under investigation.
