An elderly woman was killed Friday evening when a man ran a stop sign and crashed into the church van in which she was riding, according to Georgia State Patrol Senior Trooper Brian Scott.
The drivers of both vehicles and three passengers of the van were seriously injured as well, he said.
Jestine Roberson, 75, address unavailable, was killed in the crash. The others were transported by ambulance and helicopter to Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah.
Around 6:55 p.m. Friday, Christopher Dyal, 30, address unavailable, was driving on Mud Road when he failed to stop at the intersection with Georgia Highway 119, Scott said. Dyal's vehicle struck the church van as it traveled on Highway 119.
Two Air Evac helicopters, a LifeStar helicopter and three ambulances responded to the scene to transport those involved, he said. No further information on survivors' conditions were available Saturday, except that one van passenger, whose identity was unavailable Saturday, remains in critical condition.
Charges are pending and the crash remains under investigation, Scott said.
