Statesboro police have two of three suspects in custody who are believed to have been involved in the Sept. 19 shooting of a man at Butler Homes on Johnson Street.

Police arrested Devante Rashad Royal, 20, Friday, said Statesboro Police Community Information Specialist Madison Warren.

United States Marshals located Lee Ann Smith, 22, of Statesboro Place Circle, Tuesday in Ft. Payne, Alabama, she said. Detectives are still seeking a third suspect, Ryshan Buford, 21, of Midville.

Royal, of Fannie Brewer Road, Twin City, as well as Smith and Buford, are charged with aggravated assault with a gun, she said.

As of Thursday, Smith had yet to be extradited to Bulloch County and therefore, no photo of Smith was available, Warren said.

Police and K9 units searched the area of Johnson Street, as well as West Jones Avenue and nearby areas for the suspects after the shooting, which took place around 4:30 p.m. that day.

Statesboro Police Chief Mike Broadhead said the victim, whose identity has not yet been released, suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen. Warren said Thursday the victim remains in the hospital in stable condition.

Since the incident remains under investigation, detectives did not release additional details about the case. Anyone who knows of Buford’s whereabouts is asked to call the Statesboro Police Department at (912) 764-9911.
