Folk music and acrobatic dances will take center stage when Georgia Southern University's Performing Arts Center welcomes the Hungarian State Folk Ensemble on Thursday.

The performance, "Hungarian Rhapsody," is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the PAC, 847 Plant Drive.

Established in 1951, the Hungarian State Folk Ensemble aims to collect and play authentic folk music and to preserve the folk dances, music and traditional costumes of the 1,000-year-old culture. As a musical genre, the rhapsody is best characterized by its tumultuous rhythms, strong emotion, impassioned surges of thought and freedom of expression.

"Hungarian Rhapsody" incorporates all the hallmarks, taking its inspiration from folk music and dance traditions and creating its own unique dance rhapsody. The ensemble has performed before more than 7 million people in 44 countries.

Admission is $10 for students, $20 for faculty and staff and $24 for patrons. Tickets may be purchased online by visiting GeorgiaSouthern.edu/pac or at the PAC box office from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays. Call (912) 478-7999 for more information.
