Sylvania police are investigating the circumstances of a man found dead in his home Saturday.

Sylvania Police Lt. Tony Taylor said the body of George Robert Burns Jr., 63, was found in his Screven Street home.

Susan Burns, the victim’s daughter-in-law, said her husband Jeremy Burns was concerned when he could not reach his father by phone and the victim did not answer the door. Jeremy Burns then called police for assistance in entering the home, and found the victim deceased, she said.

Taylor said the case remains under investigation, and due to the current status of the case, did not say whether foul play is suspected.

The cause and manner of death is yet to be determined, he said. Investigators are working with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime lab in Savannah regarding the case.

Susan Burns said there are several questions about the victim’s death, although he did suffer from health issues. “If anyone has any information about Papa G’s death or the last few days before he was found, please come forward.”

Taylor may be reached at the Sylvania Police Department at (912) 564-2055.
