An accident Tuesday morning involving a Statesboro police officer is under investigation by Georgia State Patrol troopers.
Reports were incomplete Tuesday evening, but preliminary reports state a Crown Victoria driven by Statesboro Police Officer Oscar Fernandez, age and address unlisted, pulled into the path of a Geo passenger car driven by Guillermina Baizabal, 49, Chances Mobile Home Park.
Fernandez was driving north on U.S. Highway 301 North, while Baizabal was headed south. Fernandez, who Statesboro Advanced Patrol Officer Justin Samples said was on the way to firearms training, attempted to turn left onto Holland Industrial Drive when he pulled into Baizabal's path, causing her to strike his patrol car.
A passenger in Baizabal's car, unidentified in preliminary reports, was taken to East Georgia Regional Medical Center by Bulloch County EMS for treatment of unspecified injuries, reports stated.
Neither Baizabal nor Fernandez was injured.
As of Tuesday afternoon, no charges had been filed, and the accident remains under investigation, according to reports.
