A Statesboro man was killed Tuesday afternoon when he lost control of his car and it became wedged underneath a mobile home.

Brian Cullum, 36, Lucy’s Lane, was driving a black Nissan Maxima around 12:36 p.m. on Hwy. 301 South, heading back to his job at Lewis Color Inc., when the accident occurred, said Bulloch County Deputy Coroner Richard Pylant.

Georgia State Patrol Trooper First-Class Jamey Holloway said Cullum didn’t appear to have applied brakes, and left the roadway after losing control of his car. He jumped a curb and became airborne, then his car came to rest wedged underneath a new mobile home for sale at AAA Discount Homes on Hwy. 301 South across from J.C. Lewis Ford and Georgia Chrysler Dodge-Jeep. Cullum died upon impact, he said.

Pylant said there would be no autopsy performed, and that Cullum died as a result of blunt force trauma sustained in the accident.

The cause of the crash is unknown, Holloway said.  A woman driving in front of Cullum told the trooper she saw in her rear view mirror that he seemed to swerve, as if he were trying to avoid a collision with her vehicle. Then, she said he lost control and left the roadway, Holloway said. The witness was not identified.

Pylant said Cullum had no known health issues that could have caused the accident.
