A woman remains in serious condition Monday at Memorial Hospital in Savannah following a weekend shooting incident in a neighborhood just north of Sylvania that left six people suffering from gunshot injuries.
Screven County Sheriff Mike Kile said his office received calls late Saturday night about multiple shootings in the Lawton Place neighborhood off Highway 301 North, about three miles north of Sylvania. Kile said Monday that it appears an argument that started outside of the area spilled into an unpermitted block party that was going on Saturday night and into Sunday morning in the Lawton Place neighborhood.
"There were two different groups shooting at each other," Kile said.
In addition to the woman, Kile said four of the people shot were treated and released at Memorial in Savannah, while the fifth was treated and release from an Augusta hospital.
Along with the Screven SO, Kile said the Sylvania Police Department, Georgia State Patrol and Bulloch County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene.
Kile said the Georgia Bureau of Investigation is assisting in the investigation and is interviewing witnesses.
"I expect we'll be making some arrests in the next few days," he said. "Lucky, nobody was killed."
