Four suspects face home invasion and other charges following an incident Wednesday on Bunce Lane in Statesboro, according to Chief Deputy Jared Akins with the Bulloch County Sheriff's Office.
About 12:45 p.m. Wednesday, Bulloch deputies were dispatched to a reported home invasion in the 500 block of Bunce Lane, which is in southeast Bulloch off Highway 67 near Emit Grove Road. The victim, who was uninjured in the incident, reported that a black man approached him on his back porch and pointed a firearm at him. The victim retreated inside the house, locked himself and his wife in a bedroom, and called 911, Akins said.
As deputies arrived in the area, a civilian witness reported seeing a man matching the description of the suspect walking down 67. Deputies stopped the man, later identified as Rufus Lee, 22, of Lanier Drive in Statesboro, and found him in possession of a firearm. Lee was detained and then identified by the victim as the man who attempted to rob him.
Also, deputies stopped a car occupied by three people who were seen driving on Bunce Lane. Further investigation revealed that the three occupants - Shanikwa Buie, 21, of Len Tenner Ct. in Statesboro, Adrien Jacobs, 19, of Buttermilk Road in Sylvania and Jarius Ware, 23, of Johnson St. in Statesboro - also approached the victim's residence with Lee with the intentions of committing a home invasion, Akins said.
The suspects face the following charges:
• Rufus Lee - Armed Robbery, Home Invasion 1st Degree, Aggravated Assault, Criminal Attempt to Commit Burglary, Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Crime
• Shanikwa Buie - Armed Robbery, Home Invasion 1st Degree, Criminal Attempt to Commit Burglary
• Adrien Jacobs - Armed Robbery, Home Invasion 1st Degree, Criminal Attempt to Commit Burglary, Criminal Trespass
• Jarius Ware - Armed Robbery, Home Invasion 1st Degree, Criminal Attempt to Commit Burglary
Akins said all suspects remain at the Bulloch County Jail pending further judicial hearings.
"The quick response of patrol deputies and the call from the concerned citizen led to a speedy set of arrests in this case," he said.
