Deputies deployed a Taser Monday to subdue a convicted sex offender who fled when officers tried to arrest him for failure to register, the Bulloch County Sheriff's Office said.
Donald Alford Malone, 25, of Lanier Drive, registered with the Bulloch County Sheriff's Office as a convicted sex offender in September, but further investigation revealed he was wanted by Illinois authorities for the offense of failure to register as a sex offender, Sheriff Lynn Anderson said in a news release issued Wednesday.
"Malone had been convicted in Illinois in 2007 for aggravated sexual abuse of a minor," he said. When Malone registered in Bulloch County Sept. 27, he "claimed an address of Park Place Apartments on Lanier Drive at the time of his registration."
Following procedure, Bulloch County Sheriff's Office investigators contacted law enforcement authorities in Will County, Ill., to "determine whether or not that jurisdiction, Malone's previous place of registration, had knowledge of his location," Anderson said.
When investigators discovered Will County authorities had issued an arrest warrant for Malone, they found him at a Stadium Walk apartment and tried to serve him with the warrant, Anderson said.
"Malone attempted to flee and was subdued using the X26 Taser," he said.
Malone was then taken into custody without further struggle and booked into the Bulloch County Jail. He awaits extradition to Illinois.
Malone is one of around 85 registered convicted sex offenders living in Bulloch County.
Malone does not appear on Georgia's sex offender or predator listing, but he does appear on the Illinois listing. According to the Illinois registry, Malone, whose last listed address was Braidwood, Ill., was convicted on two counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault (victim 9-13 years old), failure to register new residence/school, failure to report annually (two or more years without reporting) and criminal sexual abuse (victim 13-17 years old). He is listed as a sexual predator and, according to the Illinois website, was 19 at the time of the offense, and the victim was 15.
Anderson said he encourages anyone with information on a noncompliant sex offender to contact Capt. Todd Hutchens with the information or submit an
