State agents are probing the suspicious death of a Millen man, ruling his death as a homicide.

Statesboro Georgia Bureau of Investigations Special Agent-in-Charge Cathy Sapp confirmed Millen police found the body of Kenith Scott, 51, in his Old Waynesboro Road apartment Tuesday, dead of "suspicious injuries." She would not release details of the injuries, citing an ongoing investigation as the reason.

Millen Police Chief Dwayne Herrington declined comment Thursday as well, explaining that the investigation was turned over to the GBI.

Neighbors spoke with Augusta television station WRDW reporters Wednesday and said Scott was a quiet man, a "star basketball player" in school and "never bothered anybody." Residents of the area said they were shocked to learn of a homicide in their normally quiet neighborhood.

Anyone with information about the homicide is asked to contact Millen police at (478) 982-2750 or the Statesboro GBI office at (912) 871-1121.

Holli Deal Saxon may be reached at (912) 489-9414.
