INCIDENTS

➤ Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office

▲ PAUL JOHNSON ROAD — A man reported that someone had shot the side of a hunting lodge with buckshot. The responding deputy noted four holes, spread over about 15 feet, in the vinyl siding and a broken double-paned window. The complainant theorized that a hunter shot at a deer on the road near the lodge.

▲ U.S. HIGHWAY 301 SOUTH — Georgia Chrysler Dodge Jeep reported that three license plates were stolen from vehicles there. The plates are now listed in the state and national crime information systems.

▲ OAKFIELD DRIVE — A resident reported Friday that his family’s yard had been vandalized the night before. The deputy observed that the location was littered with toilet paper and shredded newspaper. The resident reported that chocolate syrup was also used and identified four juvenile suspects with help from neighbors who experienced similar pranks. The deputy contacted Statesboro High School and Bulloch Academy, and the resident stated he did not wish to press charges if the students cleaned up the yard, which they agreed to do. The Sheriff’s Office had issued a general public warning about homecoming-week pranks.

▲ BUTTERMILK ROAD — A deputy responding to a domestic dispute reported an incident potentially involving aggravated assault, battery and third-degree cruelty to children, and arrested a juvenile.

▲ SOD FARM ROAD — Another report was logged Friday in a continuing dispute over a pivot irrigation that passes over a house.

▲ U.S. HIGHWAY 80 EAST — Lightning struck a giant oak tree and a Chevy Tahoe that was parked under it, running, with the driver inside during a brief storm. “She felt the powerful jolt of a lightning bolt strike the very tree under which she was sitting,” a deputy wrote. The driver had been sitting there with the air-conditioning on, but the engine stopped when lightning struck and would not start again. Part of the Tahoe’s grill was missing, “and the radiator was pushed in as if someone threw a large boulder into it,” the deputy observed. No injury to the driver was reported.


➤ Statesboro Police Department 

▲ VARIOUS LOCATIONS — SPD officers responded to seven traffic accidents Friday, another seven traffic accidents Saturday and at least four Sunday.

No new reports of criminal incidents were available yet on the SPD’s searchable online database as of 5 p.m. Monday.


➤ Georgia Southern University Police 

▲ Officers issued 17 traffic citations and 15 warnings and assisted 12 motorists Sept. 28–30.

▲ AGENCY ASSISTS — GSU officers assisted Statesboro police with incidents over the weekend at Veterans Memorial Parkway (two calls), Lanier Drive, University Pointe and the C-Lot parking area.

▲ FACILITIES SERVICES — A property damage report was filed.

▲ GEORGIA AVENUE — Officers responded to a motor vehicle accident.

▲ EAGLE VILLAGE — A false-I.D. report resulted in campus judicial referral.

▲ NEWTON BUILDING — A harassing communications incident was reported.

▲ PAULSON STADIUM — The department provided K-9 security, logged Friday night.

▲ OLD REGISTER ROAD — An incident reportedly involving theft-by-taking and obstruction of an officer resulted in an arrest.

▲ FREEDOM’S LANDING — Someone reported a suspicious person or activity Saturday. Sunday, a DUI and headlights violation stop in the vicinity led to an arrest.

▲ SOUTH CAMPUS — A traffic stop reportedly involving DUI, misdemeanor marijuana possession and failure to maintain lane resulted in an arrest.

▲ PAULSON STADIUM — In unrelated reports, a suspicious person or activity call was logged early Saturday afternoon, then an injury was reported about 45 minutes before game time, and some found property was reported later.

▲ NEWTON BUILDING — Criminal trespass was reported.

▲ CHANDLER ROAD — GS officers made an arrest in an incident reportedly involving affray, obstruction, public drunkenness and underage possession of alcohol.

▲ E-LOT — An arrest was reported in a case involving alleged underage alcohol possession and false I.D.

▲ SOUTHERN PINES, BUILDING 2 — A local report was filed for a theft by taking incident.


➤ Georgia State Patrol Post 45

▲ Last week in Bulloch County, troopers investigated 21 crashes with thee reported injuries and arrested seven drivers on DUI charges. They also issued nine citations and four warnings for seatbelt violations, one citation and three warnings for child restraint violations, and 14 citations and 20 warnings for speeding.
