Six years after the idea was born to help Statesboro’s homeless, the Open Hearts Community Mission homeless shelter is open for business. In what is often called a “soft opening,” the 30-bed shelter at 201 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive began accepting people in July, but the grand opening and dedication ceremony will be Sunday, said Delia Mobley, chairwoman of the Open Hearts Community Mission board. “We have been working on this a long time, and it is here,” she said.
