Online 'date' ends in armed robbery
Victim signs waiver of prosecution
Statesboro Police Department patch

A man hoping to meet a woman for “companionship” after making an online deal was apparently taken by surprise Sunday when his “date” turned out to be an armed robber.

Statesboro Police Community Information Specialist Madison Warren said the unidentified victim signed a waiver or prosecution asking that officers not pursue the crime, even though he was robbed of a significant amount of cash.

Around 1:30 a.m. Sunday, the male victim went to Park Place apartments, where he expected to meet a woman to whom he was planning to pay $350 for a sexual encounter, she said.

As the man waited for the woman to arrive for their rendezvous, a man with a gun “got in the vehicle with him and robbed him,” Warren said.

The victim was not injured, and as he asked for no investigation, a suspect description was not available.
