More volunteers sought to help Feed the Boro on Thanksgiving
Group to feed needy during holiday
Feed the Boro

Volunteers are needed to help feed Bulloch County residents whose circumstances may hinder their ability to otherwise enjoy a Thanksgiving meal.
Statesboro’s Feed the Boro effort will provide a hearty holiday meal to thousands, said organizer Robin Aspinwall.
“It is still early, but we expect to feed anywhere from 2,000 to 3,000 people,” she said.
On Wednesday, Nov. 26, “We will begin deboning turkeys, plating deserts, taping up boxes and organizing the meal line,” Aspinwall said. “We will need volunteers at the Statesboro High School cafeteria Wednesday afternoon from 4-7 p.m. and Thursday morning, Nov. 27, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.”
Meals will be delivered to families between 10 a.m. and noon.
“This has been a 20-plus year tradition,” Aspinwall said. “There are so many great memories. I especially remember the faces of the children as they received a bottle of water. I never knew how something so small could mean so much.”
Anyone who knows of a family in need is encouraged to sign them up to receive a meal. Aspinwall may be reached at (912) 596-9542 or by email at raspinwall@statesboroherald.com.
Updates on the event may be seen at https://www.facebook.com/feedboro.
It is simple to register to volunteer, Aspinwall said.
Volunteers can do so online via VolunteerSpot at http://vols.pt/Dyr49o and enter an email address. VolunteerSpot will send you an automated confirmation and reminders.
“VolunteerSpot does not share your email address with anyone. If you prefer not to use your email address, please contact me and I can sign you up manually,” she said. “VolunteerSpot lets you log in quickly with your Facebook account. Each slot is in two-hour increments and they can sign up to help at the school or with deliveries.”
Anyone who wishes to donate money to help pay for the endeavor may write checks to the Statesboro Food Bank, Inc. (write "Feed the Boro" on the memo line) and are tax deductible. Donations can be also be mailed to 3002 Powell Place, Statesboro, GA 30458.
