The body of a man suspected in the murder of a Millen woman May 1 was pulled Saturday from the Ogeechee River in Burke County.

Medical examiners with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation are not yet releasing whether the death of Waynesboro resident Deondray Johnson, 31, involves foul play, said Catherine Sapp, special agent-in-charge of the Statesboro GBI office.

Johnson was being sought in connection to the murder of Victoria Baird, whose body was found in her Tool Court, Millen home around 5:45 p.m. May 1, she said.

Warrants for Johnson were issued on charges of murder and burglary following the discovery of Baird’s body. An autopsy of Johnson’s body was conducted by the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office  in Savannah Tuesday, and the results of the autopsy are still pending, she said.

While the case is not yet closed, “We now have no one to serve warrants on,” she said.

Sapp said as the case remains open, she could not reveal any further details on Baird’s murder or Johnson’s death.

Johnson’s body was discovered by a fisherman, according to reports.

Anyone with information about Baird’s murder or Johnson’s death is asked to contact the Statesboro office of the GBI at (912) 871-1121 or the Millen Police Department at (478) 982-2750.
