Metter police seek the public's help in identifying a man they say robbed a hotel Sunday afternoon near Interstate 16.

The holdup took place around 2:15 p.m. Sunday at the Americas Best Value Inn on Fortner Road, Metter Police Chief Dennis Nelson said.

"The suspect is described as a black male, tall and slim build, with a short goatee beard, wearing a white T-shirt, dark long shorts, white socks, white shoes, dark sunglasses and what appears to be a white towel wrapped on his head," he said in a statement released Tuesday. "The suspect produced a handgun and took an undisclosed amount of money from the clerk. The suspect fled on foot and was last seen heading toward the Bevrick's Restaurant parking lot."

Anyone who may recognize the offender is asked to contact Investigator Justin Wells at (912) 685-2190 or justin.wells@metterpd.com.

Video of the robbery suspect may be seen on the Metter Police Department's Facebook page, Nelson said.
