A man was shot Thursday night on Groover Lane, but his injuries do not appear to be life-threatening, Statesboro police said.

Officers responded to Groover Lane at about 10 p.m. in reference to the sound of gunshots. On arrival, they found the victim of a gunshot wound who was trying to drive himself to the hospital. EMS arrived and transported him to East Georgia Regional Medical Center, Statesboro Public Safety Director Wendell Turner said in a news release issued Friday.

Statesboro police secured the scene of the shooting and began the preliminary investigation. Detective Keith Holloway processed the scene and spoke with witnesses and the victim.

The victim told police he could not provide any information about the offender or why he was attacked.
Further investigation revealed that the victim's account of the incident is not consistent with the evidence, Turner said.

This case is currently under investigation.
