Robbers shot a man in the leg Sunday morning as they accosted two victims at a university-area apartment complex.
Statesboro Public Safety Director Wendell Turner said in a statement released Monday that Dartarian Antwan Braziel suffered a gunshot wound to the leg during the robbery, which took place around 1:25 a.m. Sunday at The Pointe at Southern.
Braziel and Jeffery Jzumel Parrish were held at gunpoint by two masked men in the apartment complex parking lot near the 700 building. Parrish was not injured, Turner said.
After taking miscellaneous items from the victims, "the offenders fled the scene on foot prior to officers arriving on scene," Turner said.
Statesboro police received a call about gunshots heard in the area and arrived at the scene to find "Braziel had already left the scene, being driven in a privately owned vehicle to East Georgia Regional Medical Center," Turner said. "Statesboro police spoke with multiple witnesses that were still on scene" and "met with Braziel at the hospital and briefly spoke with him about the incident.
"The only descriptions of the suspects at this time are that they are black males (both masked) and one may have been wearing a green shirt, blue jeans, and a green mask," he added.
The case was turned over to Statesboro police Detective Kevin Wadley and is currently under investigation. Anyone with information concerning this case is asked to contact Wadley at the Statesboro Police Department at (912) 764-9911.
