A convicted rapist was jailed Tuesday after he sent a sexually explicit photo to his probation officer.

Bobby Lewis Braziel, of a West Inman Street address, remained in the Bulloch County Jail without bond Thursday, according to jail records. He is charged with distributing obscene materials.

Bulloch County Sheriff’s Capt. Todd Hutchens said Braziel, 56, was convicted in 2003 of a rape charge stemming from a 2002 incident in Metter.

After his release from a prison term for that conviction, he ended up in Brunswick, where in 2013, he was convicted of failure to register as a convicted sex offender, he said,

Sometime after his release from incarceration on that charge, Braziel moved back to Statesboro, Hutchens said he has been compliant with sex offender registry laws since then, but ended back in jail after electronically sending a photo of his genitalia to a female state probation officer.

Braziel told investigators he “sent the photo by mistake,” according to Hutchens.

Braziel remains in jail awaiting further court action.
