A Statesboro woman remains in jail with a $50,000 bond after being charged with taking almost $2 million from a local finance company.
Cassandra Jill Turner, 33, George Miller Road, is charged with felony theft by taking after an internal investigation at Statesboro Finance Company was turned over to Statesboro Police, said Capt. Scott Brunson.
Turner, who was an employee of  the company, was arrested Friday, he said.
According to Statesboro Police Department incident reports, the investigation stems back to incidents taking place as far back as January, 2005.  Around $1,907,195 was taken from the finance company between that date and the present, Statesboro Police Det. Terry Briley said in a written report.
Brunson said owners of the company contacted police Dec. 2 regarding the theft, after an internal audit led to suspicion.
Ricky Gay, supervisor for Statesboro Finance Company, would not comment on the investigation when contacted by phone Friday.
    E. Culver Kidd, listed in police incident reports as  the complainant in the case, was not immediately available for comment Friday.
Turner was taken to the Bulloch County Jail after her arrest Friday, charged with one count of felony theft by taking.  After today she will be eligible for bond, according to a jail spokesman, and a $50,000 property bond was set.
Police incident reports listed another woman as a suspect regarding the theft, but she recently died and was not charged in the crime before her death, Brunson said.
The case remains under investigation, he said.
