In observance of National Assisted Living Week, Sept.12-18, Gentilly Gardens will be the host to a series of events designed to bring together residents, families, employees, volunteers and the surrounding community to celebrate “Living Life.”
Living Life, this year’s theme, means enjoying activities and pursuing passions, whatever they may be. It is the lifelong pursuit of happiness and growth. The activities demonstrate the commitment of assisted living professionals providing care and services to residents that respect their dignity and enhances their quality of life.
Some of the week’s special events include:
“Around the World in 5 Days with Gentilly Gardens”
Each day will feature a different country and enjoying fun and creative customs of that particular place.  On Monday at 11a.m. Statesboro Mayor Joe Brannen, will present the official National Assisted Living Week Proclamation to the community. The public is invited to this special presentation at Gentilly.
Monday also is Chinese Day, with an all-day Fortune Cookie Bingo tournament and a menu full of Chinese delights.
Tuesday is a day in France. At 9 a.m. a local favorite, Karla Qualls, will serenade residents on the piano with a medley of French composers. Later in the day chocolate eclairs will be served along with other scrumptious treats during a “tour” of France.
Wednesday is Italian day and at lunchtime, we will create Italian pizzas. Also, from 2-3 p.m. on Wednesday, Gentilly Gardens will play host to an open house.  A variety of delectable Italian desserts will be served along with a fun presentation about the mission and character of the Gentilly community.
On Thursday, we will visit Mexico!  The public is invited to join in the trip with lots of singing and dancing, including line dancing at 3 p.m.
Friday will close the week with a fabulous All-American Day.  The public is invited at 2 p.m. Friday to help salute our homeland in a way only Gentilly can!
National Assisted Living Week is an annual celebration sponsored by the National Center for Assisted Living, Washington, D.C., and ALAG.
