Dr. John Barge, Georgia's superintendent of schools, attended a meeting Wednesday of area school superintendents in Statesboro during his first visit to Bulloch County since he took office in January.

After the meeting, Dr. Lewis Holloway, superintendent of Bulloch County Schools, gave Barge a tour of Julia P. Bryant Elementary, which opened in 2010 as a themed school with learning areas in every hallway.

"I have not seen an elementary school in Georgia that offers the hands-on learning experiences that Julia P. Bryant does in every part of the school," Barge said. "It clearly creates a tremendous learning atmosphere for children. I will be recommending other systems look at Bulloch's new schools when considering building new elementaries."
