Two men landed in jail after stealing a Metter man’s goat, police said.

An Azalea Street man’s goat went missing Oct. 29, and after Metter police and Candler County Animal Control Officer Tommy Condrey investigated, two suspects were arrested, said Metter police Capt. Kevin Wadley. Ricky Rosales, 53, and Fabian Rosales, 23, both residents of Metter, were charged with livestock theft and were taken to the Candler County Jail, where they each faced court hearings regarding the matter.

Condrey said Thursday he could not comment on the case, but Wadley said the men claimed they intended to keep the goat “as a pet” and had not stolen it to eat or resell.

The goat was returned safely to its owner, he said.
